PINE: Predicting Impacts on Natural Ecotones

PINE is a research project supported by the European Commission under the Fifth Framework Programme and contributing to the implementation of the Key Action "Global Change, Climate and Biodiversity" within the Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development work programme.

Contract no: EVK2-CT-2002-00136

PINE will investigate the potential impacts of key land-use management decisions on the European tree-line ecotones under different climatic change scenarios. The focus is on identifying critical thresholds for change, some of which may be irreversible. The aim is to inform decision makers of the consequences of their actions in terms of sustainable development, landscape change and biodiversity.

Co-ordinator: Sheila Hicks, University of Oulu, Finland.
